Parsons Wood Artistry specializes in custom woodcarving and pyrography (woodburning).

Parsons Wood Artistry creates unique handcarvings that are either relief carvings (flat on the back and designed to be seen from one side) or in the round (sculptural and designed to be seen from all sides). A variety of woods, including basswood, butternut, cherry, maple, and walnut are used. Custom carvings can be designed for architectural enhancements, special artistic displays to complete interior designs, memorials, etc.

Pyrography (woodburning) images are created on wood to be displayed as a picture or on wooden objects, such as bowls or boxes. Pyrography images have the appearance of fine sepia pen and ink drawings. Images can be  created from old family photographs; collages of pictures, which lend themselves to great memorial/memory boxes; animal designs; etc.

Parsons Wood Artistry collaborates with clients to design the unique pieces they seek. Each piece is one of a kind and therefore priced after the requirements are discussed. Prices vary depending on the size of the piece, type of wood, and complexity of the design. Parsons Wood Artistry can suggest design alternatives to stay within a client's budget.

This is an introductory class to the art of pyrography (woodburning). You will learn basic woodburning techniques to add interest to your woodworking projects, carvings, and woodturnings. This type of woodburning is very detailed, like a pen and ink drawing, yet easy to learn. In this class you will learn how to prepare your wood, the different types of pens and various techniques to use them, how to clean your pens, how to fix mistakes, the process for working on a project, and how to finish your project. The class will start with practice boards, and then move on to a class project. The pyrography techniques you learn can also be used to burn other media, such as gourds, vegetable ivory, and leather.
